Google Jamboard
-
This Google Jamboard was designed as part of a constructivist activity presented to us during the peer facilitation week.
-
The Jamboard explores how inquiry-based learning can be implemented in a classroom or teaching scenario. This template was designed keeping in mind the concept of business. It can be used with students to support them in working through the stages of the inquiry process.
-
Students can be divided in teams of 5 or 6 (depending on class size). Each team will go out in the field and devise their own questions and conduct their own research. They will write/type their findings in the space provided in the Jamboard. Towards the end of the exercise, the instructor will combine their conclusions to strengthen the concept of business.

MY REFLECTIONS
-
I believe each learner is curious, and it prompts them to look for answers in their surrounding environment. Incorporating inquiry in the classroom encourages learners to construct their own knowledge. However, if the design of inquiry-based module is not effective, it may lead to a disengaged learning environment and disinterested learners.
-
Through this activity, I was able to explore what the scope of inquiry-based learning can be. For an e-learning module to be effective, the learners and instructors must be familiar with the tools. Sotiriou et al., (2020) discussed a number of barriers that prevent the implementation of digital tools in inquiry activities. One such barrier was teachers’ “lack of experience with new technologies, preparation requirements, and classroom management” (Sotiriou et al., 2020, p. 10). The Jamboard, I feel, was a great tool to design the inquiry-based template. This activity provided me with the opportunity to explore and understand this tool in depth.
-
In addition, for inquiry-based learning to be successful, I feel, collaboration with peers is also required as students are collectively working to towards researching on their inquiry. According to Vygotsky, social interaction plays a primary role in the development of cognitive strength. Likewise, Haythornthwaite (2019) also discussed that in a scenario where knowledge is constructed, it can be effectively created through the process of collaboration.

However, I feel as an instructor, the design structure will need to have a balance of individual activities and collaborative activities. I believe there must be multiple channels of interaction and engagement like peer interactions and regular interactions with the instructor, which will enable the learners to take active part in learning. As a result, they can personalize their learning experience like I did in this course. I feel it will facilitate in building a sense of community and belongingness in the virtual world.
